World Health Organization Says Processed Meats Cause Cancer
Meat lovers get bad news in a new report on cancer from the World Health Organization, but some in the meat industry warn the findings should be taken with a grain of salt.
FOX News Radio’s Simon Owen reports from the European bureau:
Whether it’s hot dogs, bacon, or corned beef the World Health Organization saying processed meat causes colon cancer.
(Strife) “The risk increase is relatively small compared to other known cancer-causing agents, but nevertheless there is an increase of risk.”
Doctor Kurt Straif, who worked on today’s report, saying processed meat is now in the same category as tobacco and alcohol, but there’s sufficient evidence it’s a carcinogen…
But Shalene McNeill with the National Cattlemen’s Association isn’t buying it…
(McNeill) “The scientific evidence just simply does not support or cause a link between any type of red or processed meat and any type of cancer.”
