American Cancer Society Recommends Fewer Mammograms
The American Cancer Society has announced a shift in it’s mammogram guidelines… that may not end the debate of how many and how soon.

The new guidelines advise that women with an average breast cancer risk start screenings at age 45, not at 40 as previously recommended.
It goes further to say that when women reach age 55, screenings should occur every other year. They can however be screened annually if they so choose.
The guidelines also drop a requirement for routine exams by doctors. The American Cancer Society does make clear that a woman’s preference of when to be screened is always considered.
More screenings are still advised for women at a higher cancer risk.
