Labor Department: Job Openings Decline Slightly in August
There’s a new update on the job market.
FOX News Radio’s Dave Anthony reports:
There was less help wanted in August… The number of job openings advertised dropped from July’s record high of 5.7 million to 5.4 million.
Hiring was little changed in the government report and so was the number of Americans quitting their jobs. Something economists watch for as a sign of confidence, people leaving one workplace believing they can find something better.
This all adds to the mixed signals the Federal Reserve is getting assessing the job market as it considers raising interest rates. First-time unemployment claims hit a 42-year low last week, but last month the number of jobs created was much less than expected.
