Airline Fees Setting Record

All those fees are adding up to a record for U.S. airlines.

FOX News Radio’s Lisa Brady reports:

In what’s typically the slowest time for air travel, the first three months of the year, U.S. airlines racking up $1.6 billion in fees, a first-quarter record, since the start of checked baggage fees in 2008.

Fees for other things, like changing reservations, are also part of the total, up more than seven percent since the first quarter last year.

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics, says it’s partly due to higher fees and more types of passengers affected. And, there were just more passengers, over three percent more seats filled for the first quarter.

Over the past 12 months, passengers on U.S. airlines, paid a total of $3.6 billion in bag fees alone.
