Federal Appeals Court Rules NSA Bulk Phone Data Collection Illegal

The government’s secret surveillance controversially exposed by Edward Snowden’s leaks goes too far. That’s what a court ruled on Thursday.

FOX News Radio’s Steve Taylor reports from Washington:

A three-judge panel of the federal appeals court in New York concludes that the National Security Agency’s bulk collecting of telephone call data exceeds the law because, the court’s opinion says, the USA Patriot Act does not authorize that kind of surveillance. This contradicts earlier secret rulings by a national security court. There’s already a battle in Congress over whether to scrap, extend or rework the surveillance program.
