Political Showdown: GOP-led Congress vs. President Obama [VIDEO]
The Republican-led Congress, and President Obama are going head to head on multiple issues… with each trying to stop each other in their tracks.
FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern and Jon Decker have the details from Washington:
I’m Jared Halpern on Capitol Hill.
A bill authorizing immediate construction of the Keystone oil pipeline will make it’s way from here to the White House, the first veto showdown between the President and the new Republican-led Congress.
The Senate measure, which passed with bipartisan support was finished nearly two weeks ago, but leaders here wanted to avoid a Presidential veto during last week’s recess. The President will have ten days to make that veto official, something his spokesman says will be done without much fanfare or drama.
While the deadline looms for Congress to fund the Department of Homeland Security, White House spokesman Josh Earnest had this message for lawmakers who are threatening to let DHS funding lapse this Friday.
(Earnest): “Congress should do their job and the Department of Homeland Security should get funding for the full year.”
Congressional Republicans are blocking DHS funding, unless the President reverses his order that would shield as many as 5 million undocumented immigrants from deportation.
Meanwhile, the Obama Administration has asked a federal judge to lift his temporary hold on the President’s action on immigration.
