How To Really Apologize
Celebrities, politicians and other well-known people involved in scandal sometimes issue a public apology. Some are seen as sincere while others aren’t.
FOX News Radio’s Tonya J. Powers takes a look at what to say when you have to apologize:
Sensitivity expert Royalyn Reid says a good start is with the words “I’m sorry”.
(Reid) “I’m sorry for hurting you, I’m sorry for offending you, I’m sorry for disappointing you.”
Then… Show them your perspective.
(Reid) “It’s okay to acknowledge your feelings. I was afraid, I wasn’t thinking…”
Reid says showing people a more human side allows them to connect with you.
The third step?
Looking forward.
(Reid) “How can I make it better or how can I avoid this from happening again?”
She says you must show others you’re a person of your word.
(Reid) “Once people see that, then trust can be rebuilt.”
