Getting ready for NASCAR’s Super Bowl, The Daytona 500 on Sunday February 22nd, Chase Elliot moving up to Sprint Cup, Jeff Gordon’s last season and birthday wishes Darrell Waltrip.

FOX News Radio’s Marghiee Teshineh reports in “FOX in the Fast Lane”:

They call it the Great American Race, and when I spoke to Daytona Track President Joie Chitwood he said fans are even more pumped up for this year’s Daytona 500 because Dale Earnhardt Jr. is coming back as defending champ.

(Chitwood) “There’s greater interest because of Dale Jr. Anytime time he wins, obviously it kinda gets everyone excited.”

But for Chitwood the start of the 2015 season is sad because…

(Chitwood) “This could be Jeff Gordon’s last Daytona 500 and he means so much to our sport.”

Gordon, a three-time Daytona champ, says this will be his last season racing full time for Hendrick Motor Sports. But why walk away now? Gordon says…

(Gordon) “It was just the right time… the right time for me personally, I have two young children, a beautiful wife, and I want to spent more time with them.”

Taking Gordon’s place in the 24 car next season, Chase Elliot.

And happy birthday to former driver and race commentator Darrell Waltrip, who turned 68 this week.
