Oklahoma Bill Seeks To Protect Schools Offering Bible Course

A State Senator in Oklahoma is pushing legislation to try to protect public schools that offer a Bible study course.

FOX News Radio’s Dave Anthony reports:

The debate began when the Mustang Public School District in Oklahoma offered an elective course studying the Bible:

(Teacher) “It had 20 spots and 200 students applied for it.”

But under the threat of a lawsuit from the ACLU and others who fear the course would promote or advocate Christianity the district backed off. So Republican State Senator Kyle Loveless has proposed a bill and he tells FOX:

(Loveless) “Basically it would give school districts flexibility to, if they wanted to offer this class as an elective… they would have protection from lawsuits.”

He says the Supreme Court allows public schools to teach religion so long as the study is objective.
