Postal Service Monitoring Mail? [VIDEO]
Is your neighborhood letter carrier helping Uncle Sam snoop? A new report finds the Postal Service is playing a larger role than thought in surveillance.
Fox News Radio’s Jared Halpern has more from the White House:
An audit of the Postal Service finds an extensive surveillance program with 50,000 requests a year to secretly monitor Americans’ mail for use in criminal and national security investigations.
But an Inspector General’s report also warns of potential abuse of the decades-old program and an investigation by the New York Times cites examples of requests that were approved without adequately describing the reason for the surveillance.
A statement to FOX News from the Postal Service says program has been used for decades under limited circumstances by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service in support of law enforcement investigations.
