Adrian Cronauer, The Real Life Inspiration Behind Robin Williams Character In “Good Morning, Vietnam” Remembers The Late Actor
Robin Williams’ death has left many at a loss. The man who was the inspiration for one of Robin Williams’ movie roles remembers the comedic legend.
FOX News Radio’s Tonya J. Powers reports.
Robin Williams will be known for larger-than-life roles, but for Adrian Cronauer, one of those roles is his life.
He tells me Robin’s portrayal of him as an Armed Forces radio deejay in “Good Morning, Vietnam” was a little exaggerated.
(Cronauer) Anyone who has been in the military will tell you, if I had done half of the things that Robin did in that film, I’d still be in Leavenworth instead of southwest Virginia.”
Adrian told me he and Robin didn’t meet until the movie premiered in New York.
(Cronauer) “Robin and I were introduced and we shook hands, and he said ‘I’m finally glad to meet you’, and I said ‘Well, I’m glad to finally meet me, too.’… And we got along fine after that.”
The two stayed in contact for many years.
