NASCAR mourns the loss of engine builder and mechanic Ray Fox who died at age 98. Fox fielded cars for drivers like Junior Johnson, David Pearson and Buck Baker, got 14 owner wins and as an engine builder won the 1960 Daytona 500 with Junior Johnson.
And this week marks 65 years since NASCAR held its first Cup Series race, then known as the Strictly Stock division. The race held at Charlotte Speedway featured future Hall of Famers like Tim Flock, Herb Thomas and Lee Petty.
