Sinn Fein Leader Gerry Adams Arrested Over 1972 IRA Murder

    One of the men at the heart of the Northern Ireland peace process is arrested over a notorious 1972 IRA murder.

    FOX News Radio’s Simon Owen reports from London:

    Gerry Adams the president of Irish political party Sinn Fein is being questioned over the kidnapping and killing of a woman in the 1970’s.

    The case of Jean McConville is a notorious one. A mother of 10, she was abducted and then shot by the IRA over what turned out to be false claims that she was an informer for the British government.

    Adams denies any involvement. In fact he’s repeatedly said he was never in the IRA — merely heading up the political side of things.

    He was a key player in peace talks with the British government. And is now an opposition leader in the Republic of Ireland’s parliament.
