Obama Orders Changes To NSA Phone Surveillance
President Obama spoke Friday on NSA surveillance reform. Government surveillance will continue, but the President is ordering new limits and changes.
FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern reports:
Among the most controversial operations, revealed by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, is the bulk collection of telephone data, a database of phone numbers called and how long those calls lasted.
President Obama is ordering the NSA to stop that storage.
(President Obama) “And establish a mechanism that preserves the capabilities we need without the government holding this bulk metadata.”
Details about what sort of third party will hold the information are still up in the air, but to access it President Obama says intelligence officials must first get court approval.
