Despite hitting a more than five-year low, there is little good news in the December unemployment report. The U.S. economy added just 74,000 jobs last month, signaling widespread employment recovery may not be on the horizon.

FOX News Radio’s Rich Johnson has the details from Washington:

The national unemployment rate dropped by 3 tenths of a point– falling from 7% to 6.7% in December. But the Labor Department says that’s because about 350,000 people left the workforce and therefore don’t figure in the calculations. Also, U.S. employers added just 74,000 jobs last month — far below the 200,000 many expected. Cold weather may be a factor, as construction firms cut 16,000 jobs — that sector’s biggest loss in 20 months.
