    Wednesday night saw Detroit Tigers’ pitcher Armando Galaraga pull off a feat accomplished less than 25 times in more than 100 years—he faced 27 batters in a Major League Baseball game, and legitimately retired all 27.  Galarraga won’t go into the record books with a perfect game, though, just the 3rd pitcher accomplish this feat without official recognition for it – and the first to be denied by a blown call on the final out by an umpire (for the record, 2 pitchers (Pittsburgh’s Harvey Haddix in 1959 and Montreal’s Pedro Martinez in 1995) pitched a perfect 9 innings, but continued to pitch into extra innings, where they lost their “perfect game”).

    With technology now allowing for replays of every play to be viewed from multiple angles, and with each of the other “big 4” sports (NFL, NBA, NHL) allowing replay to be used by officials in some form…
