The body of 20 year-old Richard Shoop was found in a back area of the Garden State Plaza mall in Paramus. Shoop entered the mall just before closing time on Monday night. Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli says Shoop killed himself with the same gun he used at the mall.

Molinelli: “We do believe that the main motive for what he did tonight was suicide. It did not appear that he entered the mall to actually shoot anyone– and I say that only because it appears that he did have ample opportunity to do that and chose not to.”

He says no one was hurt. Molinelli says Shoop stole his brother’s gun and also has a history of drug abuse.
