First Pre-Surgical Breast Cancer Drug Approved For Use
A possible breakthrough for some breast cancer patients. A drug wins fast track approval.
FOX News Radio’s Lisa Brady has the details:
For the first time, women with early stage breast cancer will have a choice before surgery. The drug Perjeta, made by Roche, now approved by the FDA. The first medicine labeled as a pre-surgical step, for women with one of the deadliest forms of the disease– at high risk of having early stage breast cancer spread to other parts of the body. Perjeta had already been approved for treatment, after cancer had spread. Accelerated approval for early stage use, comes after a study that suggested groundbreaking results. As a condition of approval, a larger follow up study is being required.
