A federal judge has appointed an independent monitor Monday to oversee changes to the New York Police Department’s controversial stop-and-frisk policy.

FOX News Radio’s Jeff Monosso reports from New York:

Former New York City assistant DA, Peter Zimroth is appointed to monitor changes the NYPD will make to the Department’s stop-and-frisk policy, which the judge ruled violates people’s rights. The Department is being sued for unfairly targeting people because of their race. There have been about 5 million stops over the last ten years, which the NYPD says has saved thousands of lives and prevented another terror attack.
