Five months after the Argentinian was elected head of the Catholic church, Pope Francis is on his debut trip abroad for a week-long visit to Latin America.

Pope Francis arrives Monday in Brazil for World Youth Day, also know as the “Catholic Woodstock”. The official hymn of the festival has been recorded in many languages, including Arabic. More than a million are expected in Rio de Janeiro and nearby sites to greet the Pope.

Apart from the Catholic youth rally, Francis will be saying mass at the Copacabana beach and visiting a shantytown. The visit comes a month after mass protests erupted throughout the largest Catholic country of the world over shoddy public services. Over 20,000 additional police will be on duty. The first Latin American Pope has opted for an open-backed jeep, instead of the bullet-proof Pope-mobile.
