License Plate Tracking

A new report from the ACLU shows just how much we are being watched through vehicle license plate tracking systems, often financed by the federal government.

FOX News Radio’s Jessica Rosenthal reports:

License plate readers are being used all over the country, extensively, according to a new ACLU studyAnd they found police agencies in even smaller cities that might not normally be able to afford such tracking systems can, thanks to Homeland Security grants.

Private companies use them too. The study found repossession agents are large subscribers.

The ACLU says a company called MVTRAC claims to have photographs and locations on a large majority of registered vehicles in the country. Affiliates of another company feed location data on up to 50 million vehicles each month. And these companies work with law enforcement agencies, some of which hang onto these images for weeks even months.
