NJ Gov. Christie Calls For Special Election

Chris Christie

New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg passed away on Monday and now, plans have been announced  for how the Garden State will get its next Senator to replace him.

FOX News Radio’s Hank Weinbloom reports:

New Jersey’s Republican Governor Chris Christie could have named an interim Senator, presumably a fellow Republican, to fill the seat that had been held by Senator Lautenberg, a Democrat. But Christie also had the option of calling a special election. And that’s what he’s doing…

(Gov. Christie) “I deem it advisable to have a special election. In fact, I deem it necessary.”

Christie saying the voters of New Jersey should decide who represents them in Washington. And so the Democratic and Republican primaries will be held in August and the special election will be in October.
