Postal Service Dog Attacks

Did you know that next week is National Dog Bite Prevention Week? The Post Office sure does. Delivering mail can be a risky business, especially if there is a dog on the loose.

FOX News Radio’s Dave Anthony reports:

It’s a risk they take, delivering the mail:

(Dixon) “The dog came storming out of the house.”

Aeriel Dixon was attacked in Florissant, Missouri in March:

(Dixon) “I thought I was being eaten alive I didn’t know if I was ever going to see my family again or anything.”

She was hospitalized for days. A big chunk bitten out of her leg.

The U.S. Postal Service says there were nearly 5,900 dog attacks on letter carriers last year, and is urging dog owners to help prevent them.

(Dog Owner) “This is the first time he’s ever did anything to anybody.”

His mom’s dog attacked a mail carrier in Union, South Carolina, where officials ordered her to put up a secure fence.

Los Angeles led the nation with 69 attacks, followed by San Antonio, Seattle, Chicago, and San Francisco.
