FDA Seeks New Tanning Bed Warnings
The FDA wants to put new warnings and stricter regulations on tanning beds.
FOX News Radio’s Lisa Brady reports:
The deadliest form of skin cancer, melanoma, has been on the rise some 30 years now in the U.S., and recent studies find a 75% higher risk of it in people who’ve been exposed to ultraviolet radiation from indoor tanning.
So the FDA is proposing stricter oversight, including a warning on tanning beds, for those under age 18, and a possible limit on radiation levels they can emit.
That, and other design changes could be required, if the FDA classifies sunlamp products as moderate risk, instead of low risk where they are now, the same category as tongue depressors.
