New NASA Plan: Lasso an Asteroid

    Lassoing Asteroid

President Obama is pushing for a new, slightly different plan to send astronauts to an asteroid, one that would take less travel time and cost less money.

FOX News Radio’s Eben Brown reports:

President Obama wanted to send people to an asteroid, which is a long trip.  But now, he has a plan to have one robotically towed closer to Earth.

(Sen. Nelson) “By capturing the asteroid, bringing it in a stable place near the moon, then it’s much closer to get to and therefore a much cheaper mission.”

Florida’s Sen. Bill Nelson chairs the committee overseeing NASA.  He says it could save a billion bucks and accomplish the same goals.

(Sen. Nelson) “I cannot imagine that the Congress would want to turn its back on Buck Rogers.”
