Photo Voter ID Becomes Law In Virginia

The Virginia Governor has signed a bill into law that requires voters to carry photo identification with them to the polls.

FOX News Radio’s Mike Majchrowitz reports from Washington:

Next year in�Virginia,�to get a ballot you’ll need to show photo-identification. Governor Bob McDonnell, a�Republican, �signing the legislation into law making the commonwealth the fifth state with photo ID election requirements in force.

It replaces a less stringent ID requirement, which Republicans say is necessary to prevent voting fraud. But opponents see it as an�attempt�to suppress voter turnout among those who would normally vote for Democrats. Under the law, voters who can’t afford to pay for an ID can get one for free.

Editor’s Note: Georgia,�Indiana, Tennessee�and�Kansas�currently have voter-ID laws in effect. Mississippi, Texas,�Pennsylvania�and�Wisconsin�have passed similar measures that have yet to take effect.
