CA Man Sues Over Guns & Religion
A man in California is suing the state because he says restrictive gun laws violate his religion.
FOX News Radio’s Jessica Rosenthal reports from our West Coast bureau:
The man suing the state of California over its gun laws is a Sikh. Gursant Singh Khalsa moved to Yuba City from New Mexico and says his new state’s gun laws are too restrictive. He says he needs to be able to use modern weapons.
(Khalsa) “Like an assault rifle or the semi-automatic pistols that have magazines with 10 or more rounds would be essential in today’s society.”
The religion requires Sikhs to carry a kirpan – a small dagger – around with them. It symbolizes the requirement that Sikhs protect and defend themselves and others. Some Sikhs say yes, they do need to have weapons, but disagree that one of those needs to be an assault rifle.
