Americans Reportedly Among Escaped Hostages In Algeria
Sources tell FOX News that at least two Americans have been safely freed during a rescue operation after being taken hostage by terrorists at a natural gas field in Algeria. The are reports in Algeria that the rescue operation has ended; there is no word on the outcome.
FOX News Radio’s Simon Owen reports:
An Algerian Special Forces mission is said to have freed dozens of hostages held at a natural gas plant in the Sahara Desert. Algerian state television reporting just four hostages were killed, along with many militants. But the militant group claiming responsibility says at least 35 hostages were killed in the rescue attempt.
Despite an unarmed U.S. drone hovering above, officials here in Washington admit little knowledge of what happened on the ground in Algeria. As many as seven Americans are believed to have been among those taken during the militant raid of a British Petroleum gas plant.
