Securing America: New CENTCOM Commander
Another general has been selected to take over a post once held by the embattled generals David Petraeus and John Allen.
FOX News Radio’s Jill Nado reports from Washington in our ongoing series on national security:
Securing America.
For a new U.S. Central Command leader, the White House is tapping Gen. Lloyd Austin III. He’s the man who oversaw the U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. In his new job, Austin will also be getting to oversee the troop drawdown in Afghanistan.
Austin’s spent plenty of time in the region – he headed the 3rd Infantry Division that marched on Baghdad back in 2003. He’s also served in Afghanistan. If Austin is confirmed by the Senate, he’s going to be the first African-American to lead CENTCOM.
