Simple Act of Kindness: Boot-Giving Cop Goes Viral

As the holiday season gets into full swing and the spirit of giving spreads, a tourist’s snapshot of a simple act of kindness in the Big Apple goes viral.

FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig has the story from New York City:

Jennifer Foster was on vacation in New York City earlier this month when she saw a shoeless homeless man in Times Square.  As she went to give him money…

(Foster) “I saw a New York police officer, a uniformed officer, coming towards this gentleman.”

He wasn’t there to arrest or ticket the man, though, instead telling him…

(Foster) “I have these size 12 all-weather boots for you.  Let’s take care of you.”

Foster quickly snapped a photo, which the NYPD asked to post on Facebook to try to ID the generous officer.  Hundreds of thousands of likes later, they know who he is:

Larry DePrimo, who keeps the receipt for the boots in his vest as a reminder.

Foster says it wasn’t a photo op.

(Foster) “He did not see us.”

And hopes there is a lesson to be learned.

(Foster) “Compassion.  I’m really hoping that that’s what touches folks.”
