Hostess Strike Could End Twinkies, Wonder Bread
Hundreds of workers at a Hostess plant in Philadelphia have taken to the picket lines over cuts to benefits and wages. The result could mean the end of snack cakes and grocery stores staples such as Twinkies, Ho-Ho’s and more.
FOX News Radio’s Jeff Monosso reports:
(Hostess Employee) “We wanna win this, we all stick together.”
The Local Six Bakers Union joining hundreds of employees who walked off the job at the Hostess plant in northeast Philly, fighting a contract that suspends pension payments, slashes healthcare coverage and salaries by 8%.
(Hostess Employees) “Without this job, I’m without anything.”//”I’m at the end, and now they’re just snatching it from me. And I don’t feel that that’s right.”
But Hostess says it’s all about surviving its second bankruptcy in a decade, and that a widespread strike – that prevents them from making and distributing its products, like Twinkies, Zingers and Wonder Bread – will force them to liquidate, laying off some 18,000 workers nationwide.
