Securing America: Recovering from Sandy
The threat of terrorism has taken a backseat on the national security agenda with Monster Storm Sandy’s destruction on the East Coast becoming the focus at the White House.
FOX News Radio White House Correspondent Mike Majchrowitz reports in our ongoing series on national security:
Securing America.
(President Obama) “I am confident that we’re ready.”
After a briefing yesterday from emergency response teams, the President was sounding upbeat about the recovery from the storm, saying supplies and manpower are pre-positioned for fast response.
(President Obama) “We’re making sure that food and water and emergency generation is available.”
But Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Craig Fugate also warns that it will take time to get the ball rolling.
(Fugate) “There will be that period where the storm is still impacting areas and that will impact on how quickly we can begin response recovery operations.”
The President warning it may take several days before power restoration can safely begin in some areas.
