Securing America: New Plea Coming in CIA Leak Case
A former CIA officer appears to be set to admit that he leaked confidential information to the press.
FOX News Radio’s Lisa Brady reports in our ongoing series on national security:
Securing America.
He’s accused of leaking the names of two covert CIA operatives to journalists, and John Kiriakou originally pleaded not guilty. But the former CIA officer suffered a setback in a pre-trial decision last week, the judge ruling that prosecutors only have to prove Kiriakou had reason to believe the information could be used to harm the U.S., not actual intent to harm. Now, a change of plea hearing is scheduled for today.
Kiriakou has been a controversial figure in the past, considered a whistleblower on waterboarding at one point. At trial, he could face decades in prison if convicted of leaking classified information.
