FDA Investigating Possible Energy Drink Deaths

    Shares of a popular energy drink dropped more than 10% in trading on Monday after the government announced it’s looking into whether it could be responsible for a handful of deaths.

    FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig has details:

    The Food and Drug Administration is investigating reports of five deaths and a non-fatal heart attack linked to Monster Energy drinks.

    The parents of a 14-year-old Maryland girl filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the company in California last week.  The teen died after drinking two 24-oz. Monsters, each with more than seven times the amount of caffeine of a 12-oz. soda.  An autopsy determined she died from the effects of caffeine toxicity.

    Both Monster and an FDA spokesperson say there isn’t proof yet that the drinks caused any deaths.
