Historic CT Bell Factory Reopens

Their products are a little piece of holiday history.  A Connecticut company that was burned out of its factory is back in business, just in the nick of time.

FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig has the story:

    (Salvation Army Bells)

From the Salvation Army’s bells at the holidays to sleigh bells, wedding bells, doorbells and ship’s bells, Bevin Bros. makes A LOT of bells.  A Bevin bell was even featured in the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

(“It’s a Wonderful Life”) “Look, Daddy!  Teacher says ‘every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings!”

A fire destroyed Bevin’s 19th-century factory in East Hampton four months ago, but employees are back at it, starting to fill orders from a temporary factory built in a warehouse across the street.  About half of the company’s workers are on the job.

East Hampton has been known as Belltown USA – once home to more than 30 bellmakers.  Bevin Bros. are the last standing, and vowing to build anew.
