Head Games: The Dark Side of Football Part 3
More than 2,000 former players suing the NFL say head injuries have caused long-lasting damage.
FOX News Radio’s Ron Flatter reports in the third installment of our ten-part series investigating the growing concern about concussions in the sport:
Kevin Turner says he does not know the exact nature of the damage football did to him.
(Turner) “I wish a had a accurate answer.”
A fullback in the 90’s for New England and Philadelphia, Turner now suffers from ALS. He says he was told he suffered two “documented” concussions.
(Turner) “The actual number is somewhere between 50 and 1,000.”
In recent years the NFL has become more vigilant about preventing head injuries. As for those dealing with the lingering effects of them?
(Danias) “NFL players, current or retirees, know that they can go to people who have been in their same shoes.”
League attorney Anastasia Danias says this is a reversal of a long-standing culture of players being ashamed to admit the game may have been too tough on them.
Although he is now dependent on others for simple tasks, Turner says:
(Turner) “No, I don’t regret, uh, playing.”
Turner is among the more than 2,000 ex-players suing the NFL. The league has asked a Philadelphia judge to dismiss the case.
