Housecall for Health: Extraordinary Man, Ordinary Disease

Neil Armstrong, the man who did something no American – no human, for that matter – had when he became the first to walk on the moon, died of a disease that affects millions of Americans.

FOX’s Colleen Cappon reports in today’s “Housecall for Health”:

Astronaut Neil Armstrong was an uncommon man who died of a very common disease this weekend.  Coronary artery disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the U.S.

The heart-bypass surgery Armstrong underwent earlier this month has become increasingly safe for patients in the past decade, but is still a major surgery with risk of complicatons.  The condition is a result of plaque build-up in the coronary arteries, and increases with age.
