Housecall for Health: Paying People to Take Meds?
Keeping people on their medications can be problematic for doctors. Now, a new study suggests a way to motivate patients to keep up with their meds, and it may not be what you think.
FOX’s Colleen Cappon reports in today’s “Housecall for Health”:
How can health officials get patients to stay on their medications? One study says “pay them.” Recent studies suggest that 50% of people don’t follow doctor’s medication orders, even for life-threatening conditions. Researchers at the University of Connecticut say that weekly rewards of as little as $5 could keep patients on track, and offering financial incentives is actually cost-effective for health insurers, acting as preventative care.
