Midwest Rains Flood Animals Right Out of Zoo

    Parts of the Midwest are still cleaning up from Tuesday’s flooding rains, including a zoo that lost animals in the rushing waters.

    FOX News Radio’s Ron Flatter reports:

    A day after as many as nine inches of rain fell near the western end of Lake Superior, one man in Minnesota found it hard to believe.

    (Stauber) “It happened so fast.”

    Pete Stauber lives in a low-lying neighborhood of Duluth.

    (Stauber) “Within just 45 minutes or so, the house was flooded and there was no way they were gonna be able to get the vehicles out.”

    The result?

    (Stauber) “The vehicles are totaled, the house is probably totaled.”

    The mayor of Superior, Wisconsin said his city had its worst flooding since the early 1900’s.

    And it wasn’t just people.  Some animals at the Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth drowned.  One polar bear had to be recovered after being swept out of his enclosure.
