Housecall for Health: Over-Treating Diabetes-Related Illnesses
Are doctors over-treating certain diabetes-related illness, particularly high blood pressure? A study focusing on one group of diabetics is raising eyebrows.
FOX’s Colleen Cappon reports in today’s “Housecall for Health”:
A new study finds that doctors in veterans hospitals are over-treating high blood pressure. Research from the Department of Veterans Affairs says up to 20% of diabetic veterans are given blood pressure medications they don’t need, which can cause low blood pressure, dizziness and weakness.
But experts say doctors may not be to blame. Current guidelines don’t set a lower limit for recommended blood pressure in diabetics.
