Housecall for Health: New Pain Meds
To test or not to test? That’s the question before the FDA on Monday, as a panel will look at a controversial new drug designed to ease severe pain.
FOX News Radio’s Marghiee Teshineh reports in today’s “Housecall for Health”:
Three big drug companies today will try to convince the Food & Drug Administration to allow for clinical tests of a new kind of pain medication. Testing on the drugs, known as “nerve growth factor inhibitors,” was stopped because of reports of serious side effects.
But the drug makers say the side effects only occurred in patients who were taking other pain meds at the same time, and – with new safeguards in place – more testing should be allowed.
