Former U.S. State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus joins Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla to talk about how she expects foreign policy to factor into the first 2024 GOP presidential debate.
“I am hoping that if we get to foreign policy and we should, that we talk a little bit about China. You know, everybody likes to sort of talk tough on China now, but actually there’s a pretty mixed record on the stage of who has actually been tough on China in policy instead of just in rhetoric. And what does being tough on China mean? We’ve had this policy for 40 years of strategic ambiguity as it relates to Taiwan. Myself and many others would argue it’s time to be crystal clear with the Chinese what we are going to do is, as it relates to will we fight for Taiwan or not. You’ve got Biden, who hasn’t officially changed the strategic ambiguity policy, but he will go out and say, yes, yes, we will fight to defend Taiwan. And then in the next breath, his employees at the White House will go off the record and walk back his comments. So maybe that’s a part of a strategy that’s to keep things ambiguous. I don’t know. But I think it’s time for us to draw red lines and stick to our red lines about what we’re going to do as it relates to Taiwan.”
