Oscars Round-Up: “The Artist,” “Hugo” Win Big

It was Hollywood’s big night: the Oscars.  The Academy, paying tribute to old Hollywood, with silent film “The Artist” winning big.

FOX News Radio’s Sabrina Sabbagh was there and has this recap of the night’s awards:

The silent black-and-white film “The Artist” won five Oscars, including the one that means the most.

(Best Picture) “And the Oscar goes to…”The Artist.”

The so-called “love letter to Hollywood” won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor.

(Dujardin) “I love your country.”

French native Jean Dujardin, who starred in the silent film, taking full advantage of his opportunity to speak, yelling his thanks from the stage.

In the Best Actress category, there was a but of a surprise.  The Oscar went to Meryl Streep, who – while most would agree deserved it – didn’t expect it, with Viola Davis considered a shoe-in for “The Help.”  But always the good spirit, Streep joked about the win.

(Streep) “When they called my name, I had this feeling I could hear half of America going ‘oh no!'”

Best Supporting Actor went to Christopher Plummer, who is the oldest actor to ever win an Oscar.

(Plummer) “You’re only two years older than me, darling.  Where have you been all my life?”

Octavia Spencer also won for her supporting role in “The Help,” and “Hugo” won five Oscars during the ABC show, mostly in the visual and sound categories.
