Securing America: State of Homeland Security

Foreign trade makes up a large part of the U.S. economy, and America’s Homeland Security chief says now’s the time to work with those international partners to better protect America.

FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig reports in our ongoing series on national security:

(Napolitano) “Not every traveler or piece of cargo poses the same level of risk to our security.  The key to evaluating potential risk is information.”

…And sharing that information with trade partners will help mitigate any risk, according to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.  In her second annual “State of Homeland Security” address, Napolitano also pledges to improve infrastructure along the southern border, noting than an increase in manpower has already helped to deter illegal border crossers.

(Napolitano) “Illegal immigration attempts, as measured by Border Patrol apprehensions, have decreased 53% in the past three years.”
