Housecall for Health: Early Stroke Symptoms

Doctors are optimistic about the prognosis for Illinois Senator Mark Kirk, who suffered a sudden stroke over the weekend.  The 52-year-old seemed to be in good health before the episode, which led to surgery, removing a section of skull to relieve swelling in his brain.  What can YOU do to detect stroke symptoms early enough to prevent serious damage?

Illinois Senator Mark Kirk’s stroke surprised many because he’s young and seemingly healthy.  Neurologist Joseph Broderick tells FOX News Health that strokes in men in their 50’s are rare, but not unheard of.

Empty symptoms of a stroke include numbness in the hands, legs or face, trouble seeing or speaking and confusion.  Getting to the emergency room right away could mean getting the right care to stop a stroke in its tracks, before it does major damage.
