Texas AG Ken Paxton: The DACA Ruling Is Correct Because Our President Can’t Just Dictate Laws
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton joins Fox Across America With guest host Paul Gleiser to share his reaction to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court’s ruling that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program was illegally implemented by the Obama administration.
“President Obama had told us that he didn’t have the authority to change immigration law, that it was up to Congress and he wasn’t a king or an emperor. And yet, not long after he said that, and I think it was in November of 2014, he created DAPA and then later DOCA, where he changed the immigration law without Congress’ approval. Again, this is a violation of the idea that we have a representative government. Whether you like the idea or not, we can’t let our president just dictate laws to us or we don’t have representative government. We were able to overturn DAPA. And now here we are in front of the 5th Circuit and they agree, this law was completely made up. The Biden administration is criticizing us, saying we’re extremists for following the Constitution and for following federal law. And the reality is he’s the extremist. He’s the one that doesn’t want you to know that he is following federal law, that he’s doing what he wants to do. And it doesn’t follow any mandates of what our Constitution put in place. And he’s operating it as a sole independent source. And that just that’s not the way our government works. It does in other countries but it’s not the US government.”
