Housecall for Health: ‘Couch Potato’ Pill Takes On Heat Stroke

The ‘couch potato’ pill may have a new purpose, preventing heat stroke.  A new study finds that the pill could help out any person prone to the deadly condition.

FOX’s Colleen Cappon has the details in today’s “Housecall for Health”:

Scientists have found a drug that may prevent heat stroke in those who are high risk, known as the ‘couch potato’ pill.

The same drug that was originally developed to produce muscle and endurance without exercise, AICAR, was effective in preventing death from heat stroke in mice that were genetically engineered to be prone to it.

Experts say the findings are promising. The study was published in the journal “Nature Medicine”.
