Airline Denies Dying Boy’s Protective Seat
Southwest Airlines is looking into an incident where a family’s special vacation with their terminally ill son became a travel chore.
FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig has details:
Nicholas Daniak has Batten disease. He’s blind and unable to speak or hold himself upright. But the 8-year-old loves DisneyWorld, and his family had flown there five times without incident…until they tried to fly home to New Hampshire recently.
(Dainiak) “The stewardess came over. She just said ‘I don’t think you can fly in that car seat.'”
Rather than miss the flight, Heather Dainiak and her husband held their son for the entire 3-hour flight. Southwest has apologized and refunded the family, saying in a statement that customer service is second only to passenger safety.
Children with Batten disease typically only live 8-12 years, making this trip to Disney even more meaningful to the Dainiaks.
(Dainiak) “I don’t know if this is gonna be our last trip, so…sorry.”
