Most Annoying Word Named in Poll: You Don’t Like It? Whatever.

Marist University is out with the results of a poll to determine the most annoying word in the English language.  And the winner is a real conversation stopper.

FOX News Radio’s Bill Vitka reports:

The word we don’t want to hear: “whatever.”  There’s no better way to end a conversation than with that ubiquitous entry in the English language, according to a Marist poll.  It’s now the hands-down winner for least-welcome word three years running.

But “whatever” has company in the race for the bottom.  There is “like,” which is disliked by 20% of us; “you know” gets a 19% thumbs down; followed by “seriously” with 7%; and that old favorite “just sayin'” with 11%.  Five percent of us, by the way, say there are so many words that annoy, it’s tough to name just one.
