This month, Iranian-backed Houthi fighters in Yemen have launched drone and ballistic missile attacks against the city of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The events mark a clear escalation and expansion of violence related to the civil war in Yemen. Efforts at finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict, which has raged for years but has been largely been overlooked by the international press, have been unsuccessful so far.
